According to the Ministry of Defense, the number of illegal immigrants entering the country across the English Channel has exceeded 40,000 since the beginning of the year.
Only on Saturday they arrived about a thousand. Risking their lives in 22 small boats (972 people), the migrants crossed the strait to reach the shores of the United Kingdom.
Among them are predominantly Albanians, Iranians and Afghans.
The current government is seriously concerned about the situation. After all, the Tories were put as the main priority after Brexit – the solution of the migration problem.
However, the numbers show the opposite. Last year, the number of migrants was also a record. Then the number of illegal immigrants was almost 29 thousand. This year there are almost a third more of them.
The topic of illegal migration is the subject of tense relations with Paris. On Friday, both countries announced progress in finding a new solution to the migration issue. The United Kingdom is going to give France 91 million euros to strengthen control of the coastline.
In early November, British Home Secretary Swella Braverman called illegal migration an “invasion of the south coast”, which caused controversy in the country.
